Who we are
LeaseSimple.ca (“LeaseSimple”, “we”, “us”) provides free information and tools to help landlords and tenants in British Columbia start and manage a tenancy. This policy explains what personal information we handle and why.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, and (if you sign in with Google) your name and profile photo.
- Profile & documents: information you enter to prepare a tenancy — landlord and tenant names, phone numbers, email addresses, property details, and tenancy terms.
- Waitlist: if you join, your email plus optional role, language, and which feature you were interested in.
- Analytics: privacy-friendly, aggregate usage data (no cookies, no advertising profiles).
- Technical: standard server logs (e.g. IP address, browser) needed to run and secure the service.
How we use it
- To provide the service — your account, your saved profiles, and the documents you generate.
- To email you the checklist and occasional product updates if you joined the waitlist (with your consent, as required by Canada’s anti-spam law — you can unsubscribe in one click anytime).
- To send transactional messages you ask for, such as a tenancy invite to a person you specify.
- To understand, secure, and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.
Service providers
We share data only with processors that help us run LeaseSimple, under their own safeguards:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Resend — sending email.
- Vercel — hosting.
- Umami — privacy-friendly analytics.
Some providers process data outside Canada (including the United States), so it may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.
Document sharing
When a landlord invites a tenant to a tenancy, the details needed to review and complete the agreement (the property and proposed terms) are shown to the invited person. You control who you invite.
Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, then delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period unless the law requires otherwise.
Your choices
- Access, correct, or delete your information — contact us and we’ll help.
- Unsubscribe from product emails using the link in any message.
- Exclude your own visits from analytics by setting
localStorage.setItem('umami.disabled','1')in your browser.
Security
We use reputable providers, encryption in transit, and access controls. No service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data.
Children
LeaseSimple is intended for adults entering tenancy agreements and is not directed to anyone under the age of majority in their province.
Changes
We may update this policy; we’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
